(textile) letter:
I have met Karina from Rios on Flickr when she asked me if I would like to exchange a letter with her. A textile letter, a snippet of something about me/my textile work. I have already received her letter and mine to her is on the way. When it arrives she will post about it on her blog.
Along with a lovely letter, Karina, a passionate weaver from Copenhagen, has included samples of her weavings as well as bobbin lace, technique she has learned as a teenager from her grandma.

I don’t weave, but secretly wish I did and maybe one day I will. The structure and rythm in woven textiles is so appealing!

Today I decided to open my 2 days old bundle and remove/cover the rusty pipe. Such rust in combination with tannins in the leaves could leave black patches, darker and bigger than I would like. Plus I had a good excuse to peek into the bundle ^_^. This is what it looks like now, I am so excited! But I am going to wait – and no more peeking, just keeping it nice and hot. I want to open it with my parents, when they are with us in 4 weeks time.
At the end, I decided to cover the rusty metal with two layers of cotton muslin, some presoaked euca leaves tucked in and rolled it up from the other end. The iron, once it gets hot, keeps the bundle warm from inside while it sits in the pot covered with a lid on the hob. Sorry, no solar dyeing here, the sun is nowhere to be seen and it’s hardly 15 C.
I have also started dyeing with the lichen with mixed results, it’s a tricky one. I will show you next time.

A statement bib or collar necklace featuring three pale pink felt flowers and lots of sparkly silver seed beads.
The flowers have been handmade from gorgeous 100% wool felt. They are sewn onto a backing of white acrylic felt.
The necklace is approx 7 1/2 inches (19cm) wide, and fastened with two pieces of white satin ribbon each measuring over 13 inches (34cm).
