Pinterview: Katie Rodgers, Apparel Designer and Fashion Illustrator: "

If you cruise fashion blogs at all, chances are you've seen the illustrations of Katie Rodgers. Whimsical and, lately, very glittery - you can't miss them and her boards are no exception. So we finally decided to chat with the talent behind some of the prettiest pictures around the web:

First, can you tell us a little about yourself?

Katierodgers

Hello! I'm Katie!

I once studied Industrial Design at Carnegie Mellon University… felt bored, and steered myself into the world of fashion. These days I'm working as an apparel designer at Reebok by day and doing freelance illustration in my spare time. I'm been commissioned by Target, Coach, Penelope & Coco, AKW, and ThePurseBlog.com, just to name a few. I live in Boston at the moment, but am relocating to Barcelona in a few weeks! I'm originally from a small town in Georgia, so needless to say, these new places bring so much inspiration to my life.

With such a design-heavy background and lots of creative projects, what inspires you?

EVERYTHING! Literally. More specifically, I find a lot of inspiration in patterns, new mediums (currently glitter!), fashion, and art. Digging through blogs and fashion editorials is a great way to find inspiration. When I see a great editorial image, I instantly imagine what my illustration would look like! It's a great feeling when I see something like that.

What do you love to capture in your illustrations?

I don't really think about what I want to 'capture' in my illustrations too much. I find that if you keep moving, things just come to you. Personally, that's how I work. When I illustrate, I just do what seems right at the moment. Most of the time it's about color... but the characters come alive on their own.

Can you tell us about how you use Pinterest?

I'm an avid pinner. The moment I started using it I was hooked. I spend A LOT of time rummaging through fashion blogs, design websites, etc. My "Figure Poses" board is mainly a collection of nice poses I may want to use for illustrations in the future. I don't always use them, but it's a nice place for my pose toolbox.

It's nice to finally have an easy way to not only store the images, but also save their sources. There's nothing worse than finding a great image and not being able to figure out the original source. Okay, maybe there are worse things... but it's high up there!

Who are some fellow pinners you have a serious repinning crush on?

Gosh, so many! Definitely love these girls though: Joanna Hawley and The Glitter Guide.

Thanks so much for sharing, Katie - can't wait to see more of your gorgeous pins!
